ONE OF MY OTHER PASSIONS
Some of you know that one of my other passions in life is aviation and this morning I hopped on the EG and headed down to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to indulge in that passion and hang with some of the other airport bums in the area. Murfreesboro (MBT) is home to Middle Tennessee State University’s aviation program but is also a public airport… one that I did a lot of my own training at… and once a month they host a local fly-in.
An added bonus today was when one of my friends showed up with the beauty above. It is a 1961 Piper Colt that he has completely restored. It took him six years to complete and the results are quite stellar! Now some of you aviation fanatics will note that the Colt was a tricycle gear airplane originally… and you are correct but this one was restored as a Pacer with the tail-wheel.

Sometimes in the afternoon Katie and I have a coffee date. We get coffee to go and then sit where we can watch the planes take off and land from our small local airport. Flying a helicopter would be awesome, too. Just never committed the time and money. I guess the money part holds me back the most. However, an admiring passion is still free!

Unfortunately skyrocketing cost is killing General Aviation.

Ha… that’s one of the trainers that MTSU uses to train their pilots. Not sure how it ended up on a pole in front of the aviation building!
